Wildlife watching in Brazil's Pantanal is very good at this time, and July see the start of the wildebeest migration reaching Kenya's Masai Mara.  Tarangire NP in Tanzania comes into its best season, and Zambia's Busanga Plains should be accessible from about this time. 

  1. Botswana

    • Excellent time to visit the Okavango Delta.
  2. Brazil

    • The Pantanal is especially good for wildlife at this time, particularly for water birds.
    • Southern Right Whales are seen near Praia da Rosa (boat trips).
  3. Ecuador

    • The rainforest around Kapawi is usually excellent for monkeys at this time. 
    • Humpback Whales can be seen off the coast near Puerto Lopez.
  4. Galapagos

    • Particularly good month for diving to see whale sharks.
    • On Fernandina, Flightless Cormorants start mating and nesting.
    • Blue-footed Boobies can be seen in various stages (egg, chick, young)
    • Frigatebirds chicks hatch in July to August.
  5. Kenya

    • The annual wildbeest migration reaches the Masai Mara around this month. One of the world'’s best wildlife spectacles.
  6. South Africa

    • Land-based whale watching off the Cape (mostly Southern Right Whales).
  7. Tanzania

    • This is peak season for both Ruaha NP and Selous Game Reserve. Excellent wildlife viewing.
    • Start of the best season to visit Tarangire National Park due to its permanent water source attracting wildlife from a huge region of northern Tanzania.
  8. Zambia

    • One of the best months for South Luangwa. 
    • Walking safaris available.
    • The Busanga Plains in Kafue NP become accessible from about now.
