August

August is probably the best month for seeing the migration in Masai Mara. It is also good for whale watching in South Africa, and a peak month for seeing birds at the rainforest clay licks in Peru and Ecuador. Iguazu Falls is often particularly beautiful at this time.

   Botswana

   • Excellent time to visit the Okavango Delta.
   • The carmine bee-eaters arrive in Savuti/Linyanti.

   Brazil

   • Iguazu Falls is excellent this month.
   • The Pantanal is especially good for wildlife at this time, particularly for water birds.
   • Southern Right Whales are seen near Praia da Rosa (boat trips).

   Ecuador

   • Humpback Whales can be seen off the coast near Puerto Lopez.
4. 

   Galapagos

   • The coolest month (min 19ºc / max 24ºc)
   • Galapagos Hawks start courtship rituals on Espanola and Santiago.
   • Particularly good month for diving to see whale sharks.
5. 

   Kenya

   • The annual wildbeest migration reaches the Masai Mara around this month. One of the world'’s best wildlife spectacles.
6. 

   Peru

   • Peak seasons for seeing birds at the clay licks.
7. 

   South Africa

   • Land-based whale watching off the Cape (mostly Southern Right Whales).
   • In Namaqualand in late August the flowers bloom in the desert.
8. 

   Tanzania

   • This is peak season for both Ruaha NP and Selous Game Reserve. Excellent wildlife viewing.
   • Start of the best season to visit Tarangire National Park due to its permanent water source attracting wildlife from a huge region of northern Tanzania.
9. 

   Zambia

   • One of the best months for South Luangwa. 
   • Walking safaris available.
   • The Busanga Plains in Kafue NP are accessible.
