Accommodation that makes a difference

Tribes has always kept ahead of the game in terms of our knowledge of which places to stay and which services are making a difference for local people, the environment and wildlife.

We started our eco-rating scheme at a time when no other travel company was doing this, and indeed even today it is quite a unique phenomenon to find a travel company spending so much effort on trying to offer its clients second-to-none responsible travel advice.

Today, in early 2010, the certification of properties and the award schemes to be found around the world are many and various.  Those companies offering eco-certification and auditing are in a better position in terms of manpower than we are, to move forward this side of hotel auditing.

We have therefore decided that we will no longer update our eco-ratings for each lodge so that we are not duplicatin work already done. We are instead going to use the knowledge we built up through the questionnaires hotels had to complete for us, and add to this any worldwide recognitions that each hotel has now obtained.

You will therefore find that the list below should give you a very good idea of which of the places we sell are doing more as regards social and environmental responsibility than others.

So if you are trying to put together a holiday using accommodation which really does make a difference, this is the place to start.  Of course if we can help at any time, do call us for more advice.
