Rivers and Rainbows

A superb chance to visit South Luangwa in the emerald season, a time of plenty and stunning colours and scenery with great widllife.

During this time of year (late January to end of March) the bush is full of vivid green colours and flushed with new growth, a time of plenty for the wildlife that feeds on vegetation.  The rivers and lagoons brim over and boating safaris take you eye to eye with hippos and crocs (the only time of year that you can actually boat safely along the Luangwa and deep into the park).

Magnificent skies and sunsets with a huge number of migratory birds, crystal clear night skies and occasional dramatic tropical downpours provide the back drop for an exciting safari in the Luangwa.

This 7 night package is suggested as 4 nights at Kapani Lodge then 3 nights at Kakuli bush camp but can be tailored to suit if you would like more or less time please ask us about the camps open at this time of year.

Kakuli is the only tented bush camp in the heart of the park open at this time of  year, there are no game drives there but boating and walks are the highlight of the stay.  Gliding by boat into the magical nearby ebony grove is a wonderful experience and a must for returning Africa adicts and those who love the Luangwa valley.  Day and night game drives are taken at Kapani Lodge and then boating and walking from Kakuli.

This safari offers a unique experience for photographers and wildlife and bird enthusiasts as well as those wanting to visit a remote and beautiful park, one of Africa's finest.

Any date, tailor made to suit.

Pricing guidelines for Zambia

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless airlines have special offers). Zambia combines well with Malawi and Botswana.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.

  • Example tripPrice per person
  • 1 week mid-high season safari staying in one park in good lodge or tented campBetween £3000 and £5000
  • 2 week safari in various parks in quality lodges and tented camps.Between £4000 and £6000
  • 1 week ‘green season’ safariFrom about £2500 +
  • 2 weeks Zambia and Lake MalawiBetween £4000 and £5000
