About Mfuwe Lodge

  • Close Panel

Mfuwe Lodge is a unique lodge situated in the South Luangwa National Park. The lodge overlooks a beautiful oxbow lagoon and the area boasts one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in the world. Mfuwe was voted 'Best Lodge' in the 2009 Zambia Tourism Awards, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team.

There are 18 luxury en-suite thatched chalets, each with a private decking area overlooking a lagoon that attracts abundant wildlife and game from the African bush by day and night. The chalets have 24hour mains power, ceiling fan, refrigerator and tea and coffee making facilities. They all have en-suite bathrooms with sunken baths and integral showers.

Meals are served in a variety of locations, including in the bush and dinner by candlelight beneath the stars. The lodge has a small library stocked with wildlife books and videos.

Activities offered here include game drives with an experienced and knowledgeable guides, both by day and night. Walking safaris to view and track animals on foot are also available.  The lodge is the base for the Bush Camp Company who have 5 bush camps in the southern part of South Luangwa. Mfuwe Lodge is often a first night or lunch stop to freshen up before you venture deeper into the park.

Please note, Mfuwe Lodge will be closed for refurbishment from 15 January to 30 April 2010. All chalets and public areas are being upgraded.

Pricing guidelines for Zambia

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless airlines have special offers). Zambia combines well with Malawi and Botswana.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.

  • We stayed in Mfuwe Lodge for the first two nights of our safari and this was a great decision. The experience is maybe not as intimate and individual ...
