Island Bush Camp is a small, personalised camp set in a grove of Mahogany trees on the only habitable island in the Luangwa River in the southern section of South Luangwa National Park. The park covers 9,050 square kilometres and is home to some 60 species of mammals and 420 species of birds.
The Island Bush Camp offers rustic accommodation in 4 double grass and reed huts. The huts are raised and each one has a private verandah overlooking the Luangwa River. All are en-suite and have open-air bathrooms with hot showers, running water and flush toilets. Guests can enjoy candle-lit dinners in the open under the stars.
The camp's remote location, far away from any other camps, means that guests have exclusive access to this game-rich area. The camp offers walking safaris, led by a qualified guide and accompanied by an armed National Park scout. The Luangwa Valley is one of the few places in Africa where it is possible to walk amongst wildlife in true wilderness. During the walking safaris the guide can explain the little details of the bush, spoor, vegetation and the ecology, giving guests a true insight into the wildlife of this region.
