Classic Camping

Luxury classic camping is the ultimate safari experience.  This rare privilege, enjoyed in comfort and style, harks back to a time when there were no lodges, and intrepid explorers brought their creature comforts with them deep into the ‘dark continent’.

Classic camps are fully set up and prepared in advance of our guests’ arrival in specially chosen, remote and exclusive locations.  Sites are strategically situated to shadow seasonal game migrations, while affording, where possible, splendid views of the surrounding countryside.

The tents are spacious insect-proof “Larsen” type tents, renowned for being the largest and best accommodation tent in use for luxury mobile camping safaris today.  These tents are tastefully furnished with full sized beds and 6" mattresses, luggage rack, traditional wood and canvas chairs, plus a safari table useful for writing up the day’s events.  Facilities include a large front verandah and a rear en suite bathroom that has a shower, toilet, table and hand wash basin.

Fresh linen and towels are provided, together with a full laundry service.  A  selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and wines are available (pay direct) and you are welcomed by friendly safari crew, who will cater for your every need from arrival to departure.

Highlights

  • Classic camp locations always reflect where the best seasonal game is.
  • A real bush experience without compromising on comfort.
  • Classic camps are always small and offer a real personal service.
  • Private sites are used.

Viewpoints

The tented lodge in the Serengeti was the highlight - the chef, Godfrey, was first class.
J Davies

Camping in the Serengeti was the highlight of the trip for all of us, truly magical - and yes we had the sounds of the bush at night with a hyeana outside my tent and lion roaring nearby!
Pat Price

This was really good fun! Tents were great with all the home comforts you could want, the staff were friendly and helpful and really made us feel at home.
Tara Whitehorn

The most luxurious camping we've ever done!
Becky Boret

The guides made the safari. Great knowledge of animals and their habits. Astonishing eyesight.
Richard Coe

This is the best way to get out into Africa and really feel the thrill of the wild. With only canvas between you and the wilderness, you get the smells and sounds of Africa through the night. Yet this is luxury camping, so not an uncomfortable or cheap option. The logistics behind such a camp set up are complicated and expensive, so this is one of the more costly accommodation options you can choose. In my view, it's really worth it in certain places.
