Kigongoni Lodge
Back
Kigongoni Lodge is about 20 minutes east of Arusha on a hillside site with great views of the surrounding countryside, including Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro when the clouds lift.
There are eighteen cottages, built in traditional African style and materials and each with a private verandah. There is also one family cottage with two rooms. All beds have mosquito netting. The rooms, cocktail lounge, and restaurant - all with fireplaces –are furnished in an intimate and comfortable manner, maximizing the site’s unique views and natural features. The meals are prepared using organically-grown produce from their own garden where possible, and the food is of a high standard.
It has a great swimming pool, with loungers.
Fair Trade / Responsible Travel:
Kigongoni Lodge is an excellent example of how tourism can help local charities. Most of its profits go to Sibusiso, the neighbouring clinic for mentally disabled="disabled" children and their parents. Additionally, Sibusiso regularly receives donations from Kigongoni guests who pay a visit to the foundation. Through Kigongoni, recurrent funding of Sibusiso is secured.
Highlights
- A great example of a business helping a local charity.
- Attractive grounds with great views of the nearby mountains.
- High quality local grown food.
Viewpoints
Kigongoni is an exceptionally well run property with great views. I love the link with the charity, and they will even take you down to the hospital for disabled children if you're interested. It's great work, and a lovely lodge.
Monja Merckens, Tribes
Kigongoni Lodge gave a superb first impression of the accommodation of our holiday. It was a lovely blend of Maasai style with luxury facilities and great service.
Stuart and Helen Elton
The bungalows are set in well-tended wooded gardens with monkeys in the trees (at least when I was there!), and there is a feeling of tranquillity here that I enjoyed. The whole place was neat, tidy and clean. I liked the bar and dining room too. All in all, I would highly recommend Kigongoni Lodge.
