About Western Cape

  • Close Panel

Western Cape borders both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and is one of the most popular holiday regions of South Africa.

Cape Town is the heart of the province with it's many attractions including Table Mountain, Botanical Gardens, Bo Kaap and townships, Robben Island, the Waterfront and plenty of interesting shops and restaurants.

South of Cape Town are pretty coastal drives and the fishing ports of Fishhoek and Simon's Town, Boulder's Beach in this area is a great place to see the African Penguins.  The Cape Peninsula is an area of outstanding natural beauty with it's unique fynbos flora and the stunning Cape Point.

The famous 'Cape Route 62' spans the width of the province from Port Elizabeth (in the Eastern Cape) through Uniondale, Oudtshoorn, Ladysmith, Montagu, the winelands and meets the N7 north towards Namibia on the western side of the province.  This drive consists of many scenic mountain passes and lovely farms where you can stay overnight.

The winelands north of Cape Town are central to the income of the country with South African wines being reknowned the world over.  Visit the vineyards from Cape Town or stay in the gorgeous towns of Franschoek or Stellenbosch with their many restaurants and farm shops or stay on a working farm or wine estate.  We can arrange tasting tours for you so you can leave the car behind and sample the delights of the produce!

North of Cape Town the province follows the Atlantic shores up through the coastal towns of Langebaan and Lambert's Bay, both popular spots for bird watching and seals. Inland along the north road are many citrus farms and the rugged Cederberg Mountains, excellent hiking country and beautiful to get away from it all in the wilderness.

Another attraction of the Western Cape is the vast array of botanical species it is home to.  During August - September, depending on the rains, huge carpets of colourful flowers sweep through the lands into the Northern Province and Namaqualand and there are eight protected areas that make up the Cape Floral Kingdom.
