South African National Parks Kruger

Please note that the choice of camps cannot be guaranteed at the time of quoting as SAN parks will not hold provisional dates, though we will of course do our best to get what you request.  The camps will be allocated when we confirm your booking.

A range of rest camps with a variety of accommodation throughout the Kruger National Park.  These camps are geared mainly to self drive visitors and offer  variety of accommodation from campsites and basic huts through to family cottages and luxury houses.  There are 'main' restcamps offering facilities such as restaurants, shops, washing facilities, fuel, and in some cases swimming pools.  Most camps have the option of booking a guided walk or drive if you would like to leave your vehicle at the camp.  There area also 'Bushveld Camps' which are more rustic, smaller and in quieter locations in the park, plus 2 overnight hides and 2 bush lodges.

Here are a list of the main camps:

Southern region

Berg-en-Dal is 12 km from Malelane gate and has 69 bungalows, 23 family cottages ans 2 luxury houses. This camp is in the rolling hills of Malelane surrounded by granite outcrops and has the highest rainfall in the park.  It's a pretty camp on the bank of the Matjula Spruit and overlooks the dam.  There is a swimming pool. The Bushman Hiking Trail starts from this camp which shows you the rock art and archaeology of the area.  Amongst frequently seen animals in this area are wild dogs.

Crocodile Bridge is in the far south east of the park, close to Crocodile Bridge gate and has 8 safari tents and 20 ensuite chalet units.  This is on the banks of Crocodile River which forms the southern boundary of the Kruger Park.  There are always plenty of hyaena around this cam and there are san paintings at the hippo pool about 5km away.  Many White Rhino are seen around here.

Lower Sabie is in the heart of the park with 30 huts, 60 bungalows, 2 family bungalows, a cottage and luxury house, it is 34 km north of the Crocodile Bridge gate. This is one of the best game viewing areas in the Lowveld and has great views over the Sabie River.  There is a swimming pool here.

Pretoriuskop is to the west of the southern part of the park, 9km from Numbi Gate.  It has 76 huts, 52 bungalows, 5 cottages and 2 luxury houses and a swimming pool.  This is the oldest camp in the park and at a higher altitude. There are gorgeous flowering trees around the camp.

Skukuza is 12 km from the Paul Kruger gate or 39 km from Phabeni Gate and is a large camp with 12 safari tents, 178 bungalows, 20 luxury bungalows, 16 cottages and 4 luxury houses. This is the headquarters of the park and is like a mini village with it's own shops, post office, doctors, ATM and internet amongst other things!  There is a swimming pool and a golf course.  There is a lovely frontage along the Sabie River.

Central region

Satara Camp is in the centre of the park 48 km from Orpen gate.  It has 150 bungalows, 10 cottages and 3 luxury houses. This camp is in open tree savanna and has some of the best grazing lands and predators.  There is a swimming pool.

Olifants is 83 km from the Phalabora gate which is on the west side of the park and has 107 bungalows and 2 luxury houses.

Letaba is 51 km from Phalabora gate and has 5 huts, 10 safari tents, 86 bungalows, 10 cottages and 2 luxury houses.

Orpen Camp is a small camp at the Orpen gate on the west edge of the park with 6 bungalows and 3 cottages. This is a peaceful camp with a shop and tea garden but no restaurant.  There are braai facilities and a pool.  A variety of wildlife comes to the waterhole close to camp.

Northern region

Mopani Camp is more central - north and in the middle of the park east - west, 74 km from Phalabora gate. It has 45 bungalows, 57 cottages and a luxury house.

Shingwedzi is 71 km from the Punda Maria gate and has 66 bungalows, 12 huts, 1 cottage and a luxury house.

Punda Maria camp is in the far north 10km from the Punda Maria gate with 7 safari tents and 22 bungalows.
