With a backdrop of the Northern Drakensberg, Moholoholo Forest Camp has a lovely position close to the Panorama Route and also to Kruger National Park.
The lodge is very well run, and offers good food and service. They have a main lodge with a lounge, dining room, bar area and photographic hide overlooking a mad-made waterhole. There is also a 'boma' - an outside room where dinners can be arranged at night by the fire.
A maximum of 20 twenty guests can be accommodated. They have three different types of room currently - reed, log and solid-walled chalets. All are very comfortable, with en-suite facilities. Most have a verandah, and the usual facilities such as mozzy nets, towels, overhead fans, tea/coffee, hairdryer and even a safe.
The activities they offer are game drives, game walks and also tours of the adjacent Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.
This is not truly 'wild' Africa (in that it is a relatively small area of fenced land - about 500 hectares), but it is a really fantastic introduction to the wildlife of the area and for safaris in general. It is also a very good value lodge, and perfect for families.
Tribes recommends using Moholoholo Forest Camp for one or two nights, either as a base from which to visit the Panorama Route (you can do a day's tour all around the Blyde River Canyon to see all the sites), or as a night or two before going into Kruger National Park.
