Elephant Plains Lodge

The Lodge is overlooking a scenic plain where elephants daily come to visit the waterhole. It is home to a maximum of 20 guests ensuring personalised service.

The Sabi Sand Wildtuin was set up in the 1950's by a group of private landowners who dropped the fences between their properties in order to create a larger area for the animals to roam freely. The reserve is named after its two main rivers, the Sabi and Sand Rivers, which both flow to the south of Elephant Plains.

There are various types of rooms.  Five Rondavels have en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, overhead fans, mini bars, tea/coffee facilities, mosquito nets and electronic safes. Six glass fronted luxury rooms all have air-conditioning, overhead fans, fireplaces, mini bars, tea/coffee facilities, mosquito nets and electronic safes. There is a very special honeymoon suite which has all the regular luxuries and also boasts a private splash pool and sala, ideal for a day time snooze!

Clustered amid shady trees and manicured lawns on the banks of the Manyaleti River, the spacious rooms, with individually styled interior deécor, offer spectacular views.

There is a fully licensed bar, and in the heat of the day, the pool overlooking the plain brings welcome relief. There is a large lounge and bar area with a wine cellar.  Despite the comfort, Elephant Plains Game Lodge retains an atmosphere where camp tradition prevails - such as eating a superbly cooked dinner around a fire under the starry African sky. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style in the open-sided lapa, which is the central focus of the Lodge.

Most of the staff are from the local villages outside Gowrie Gate. The lodge uses local suppliers and services wherever possible, as this provides local businesses with a steady income. The sense of community is important and the lodge provides support to its staff and to their families where needed.
