This is an exceptional Amazon rainforest tour. It explores Manu Biosphere Reserve in Peru, which is one of the best rainforest reserves in South America. This tour brings you closer to the rainforest and cloudforest of this important world heritage site.
From Cusco we travel through traditional Quechua communities and through the spectacular eastern ranges of the Andes before beginning a breath taking descent from 3500 meters to 1600 meters above sea-level to our comfortable lodge in the orchid laden Cloud Forest. This is an excellent location to watch the strange and beautiful Cocks-of-the-Rock as they display at dawn - a wonderful sight as up to 25 bright red-orange males dance and sing attempting to attract the favours of the duller, burgundy coloured females. We then continue by road and boat to a lodge close to the village of Boca Manu where we spend the night.
Our rainforest tour continues by river as we leave the relatively clean waters of the Madre de Dios behind and enter the clay laden waters of the Manu River. We travel for about five hours up the Manu before arriving at our Tented Camp near Cocha Salvador lake.
Daily activities are determined by your bilingual naturalist guide and include an exploration of Cocha Salvador and Cocha Otorongo ox-bow lakes in search of Giant Otters, and trail hikes in search of some of the thirteen species of monkeys and other fauna which inhabit the surrounding rainforest.
Our rainforest tour ends with a night in a lodge close to Boca Manu and a flight back to Cusco the following morning.
