Tansen

Located on the edge of the hill country at an altitude of just over 1,000m Tansen enjoys a pleasant climate and fabulous views of the distant mountains. Founded in the 11th century, the town has always been an important market centre for Newari traders and is an important centre of Newari culture and architecture.

A fascinating 4-5 hour drive from Pokhara through the hills past vibrant small towns and villages, the town of Tansen and its surrounding villages are home to numerous temples and palaces. The area around Tansen is excellent for day walks, and the region have been largely undisturbed by modern developments. In 2008, the town was placed on UNESCO World Heritage tentative List because of its well preserved architecture and culture.
