Established in the 1960s, Tiger Tops was the first wildlife resort in Nepal and one the first in Asia. It remains a pioneer in the field of ecotourism and has been rated as one of the top wildlife safari destinations in the world.
The lodge consists of a total of twenty rooms, housed in two blocks built from sustainable materials. Each room has its own bathroom with solar-heated hot water, and is equipped with solar-power lighting and fans. The lodge has the largest solar power plant in Nepal, but electricity can not always be guaranteed.
At the heart of the lodge is the central dining room and bar, in a domed structure known as the "Gol Ghar". Meals are served around the open fire in the centre of the room, with many ingredients sourced from the Tiger Mountain Organic Farms located just outside the park.
The lodge has its own stable of elephants for elephant rides within the park, as well as offering jeep and walking safaris. Rhinos and deer can be seen in the grassland in front of the lodge, while Langur Monkeys play in the trees nearby. The area around the lodge is rich riverine forest, and this is one of the best places in Chitwan to spot tigers and leopards.
