Known as the 'sunset coast' the West of Mauritius is a haven for nature and sports lovers. Deep sea fishing surfing and kite surfing are popular here.
Half and full day tours in Tamarin Bay can be arranged to observe the Dolphins there. Tamarin beach is great for sunbathing and swimming and sits with a beautiful mountain backdrop. It is a great surfing spot and attracts surfers and kite surfers from all over the island.
Flic en Flac on the West Coast is a popular place for the locals to visit over weekends and is a lovely white beach surrounded by Casuarina trees.
Black River Gorges National Park can be visited from here and the Macchabee Forest, both of which are tropical forests with rare endemic birds and plant species. Wolmar Nature Reserve is also worth a visit.
Horse riding and mountain biking can be enjoyed at La Vielle Cheminee at Chamarel, which is a small range of mountain peaks that form a circle in the South West of Mauritius. Those seeking more adrenalin can go canyoning at Otelair Ltee or Kayak to a waterfall in the Grand River. In the region are also tropical canopy forest trails, zip lines, hiking, rock climbing and waterfall trips.
Diving in this region includes the areas of Couline Bambous, Cathedral, 'The Aquarium', Tugg II, White Tip and St Jacques Pass.
