Ntchisi Forest Lodge

Ntchisi Forest Lodge is a former colonial lodge dating back to 1914, which makes it one of Malawi's oldest buildings and is set in the lovely Ntchisi Forest Reserve. Recently renovated, the lodge currently has 5 guest rooms, including one family room sleeping 5. All rooms have ensuite bathroom and are pleasantly furnished in a blend of African and colonial styles. From the terrace guests can enjoys the beautiful views out over Lake Malawi, some 50kms away. On a clear day it is possible to see the mountains of Mozambique on the far side.

Guests can explore the lodge's generous grounds where hides are planned to be built to view the samango monkeys, baboons, antelopes and bush pigs. The lodge offers a variety of guided walks in the rainforest looking for birds, butterflys and orchids. There are numerous hiking trails, ranging from a few hours to several days in duration. As well as guided walks guests can also follow the marked trails independently. Mountain biking is another popular way to explore the area. Day trips can be arranged to a number of places including Nkhotakota Game Reserve, Lilongwe market and Senga Bay. The lodge also arranges visits to local villages and schools.

Back at the lodge guests can relax in the hot tub before enjoying sundowners at the 'rainforest bar'. Cuisine is a based on local |African dishes using home-grown produce, although international food is also served. After dinner guests can try star gazing in the clear Malawi skies using the lodge's telescope.
