About Club Makokola

  • Close Panel

Club Makokola is situated on the southern shores of Lake Malawi near Cape Maclear.  There are around 60 rooms in a range of standard, superior, family rooms and suites. All rooms are en-suite and have mosquito nets.

It is set in ten acres of immaculate gardens with a large beachfront. It has recently been refurbished and is impressively built and situated. It is a large resort style hotel offering a large variety of activities . The hotel has two swimming pools, a squash court, two tennis courts and a mini soccer field. The Mlambe Golf Club - a 9-hole, 3 par course, is beautifully sited adjacent to the hotel in a grove of Boabab trees with spectacular water hazards to provide both experienced and amateur golfers with a challenging and enjoyable course.

The hotel has its own airstrip and flying time from Lilongwe is 45 minutes.

The M.V. Sunbird is a 22 meter cruiser which Club Makokola use for trips on the lake. Equipped with bar, kitchen, sundeck and toilets the boat can accommodate 20 passengers for a day cruises or can sleep up to 8. If more want to sleep they can sleep on deck and staff will hang mosquito nets.

Travelling between Mvuu and Club Makokola on the Sunbird is a great experience. Sailing to Mvuu Camp in Liwonde National Park takes around 6 hours. Lunch is included and there is a cash bar. The journey takes you down through the southern arm of the Lake Malawi into the Shire River past the historical village of Mangochi, through Lake Malombe and on to the National Park. The upper sundeck provides an excellent opportunity for game viewing over the reed banks into the park.

Pricing guidelines for Malawi

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Malawi combines well with Zambia.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.
