Loisaba Wilderness is on the edge of the Laikipia plateau in northern Kenya. It is a 61,000 acre private ranch and wildlife conservancy on which cattle and wildlife co-exist. Due to the varied nature of the environment (hills, plains, groves of acacia, fig and palm, and rivers), there is a good variety of wildlife at Loisaba, including elephants, giraffe, antelope, buffalo, Grevy’s zebra, kudu, dik-dik and even wild dogs and some big cats. It is also possible to see rhinos on a nearby ranch as a day trip.
There are various accommodation options at Loisaba. Whichever you choose, you can still take advantage of the many activities available here, such as walks, game drives, horse riding (for experienced riders), river rafting, fishing, visiting a local village, helicopter flights (extra), mountain biking, spa treatments, and even quad bikes.
Loisaba Lodge
Loisaba lodge used to be a hunting lodge in the 60’s but now offers stylish, comfortable accommodation in 7 en-suite rooms. All the rooms are on the edge of the escarpment with fantastic views. There is a large pool, tennis court, croquet lawn and a small health spa offering jaccuzi and various treatments and massages.
There are two seperate accommodations which are perfect for families or small groups of friends:
Loisaba Cottage is about 9km from the main lodge and set back from the escarpment in beautiful gardens with a private swimming pool. There is a doubel en-suite witha shower and another double or twin rooms with access to a large bathroom.
Loisaba House is an exclusive property which is self contained and has a cliff top infinity pool, built on the edge of the escarpment made entirely from local stone and thatch. There are 2 ensuite bedrooms.
Further away, but still with use of the main lodge facilities and the wilderness area activities are the unique star beds.
Fair Trade / Responsible Tourism
Loisaba helps with a women’s bead and leather-making group, and a furniture workshop. In all, with about 120 local employees, about 1000 local people are directly supported by Loisaba. The Loisaba Community Trust has been set up, and has so far developed a nursery school and a mobile clinic, and helped with school scholarships.
