Feynan Lodge

Feynan Lodge has been developed by Jordan’s Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature and opened in the summer of 2005. It is set among the arid mountains of Wadi Feynan on the western boarder of Dana Nature Reserve. This is right at the bottom of the Dana reserve and is usually reached by a five-hour walk down through the gorge of Wadi Dana to the desert floor at Feynan. It can also be reached by a 4x4 road if you don’t fancy the walk.

The lodge, also known as the Wilderness Lodge, has been set up as a cool, atmospheric retreat for tourists wishing to explore this undiscovered and archaeologically rich area of Jordan. It is an interesting piece of architecture built entirely of local materials and designed by a local architect. The unique arabesque desert design uses traditional adobe methods and lends a romantic feel to this remote location. The RSCN have been keen to incorporate some eco-friendly technologies, which include solar power by day and candle light at night. The staff are all from the local Bedouin community which makes it an important asset to this remote area.

It is a great place to stay and can form the base for longer explorations and treks into the area.

Highlights

  1. Peaceful, remote location.
  2. Managed by local Bedouin community.
  3. Atmospherically lit with locally produced candles.
  4. Excellent local food.

Viewpoints

Staying at Wadi Feynan is a unique experience. This is a community run project with great service and food in a wonderfully remote location. It does not offer 5 star luxury, but is a very characterful place to stay.
