In the small town of Rohet, close to Jodhpur, Rohetgarh has been the home to the Singh family since the 17th century. In the 1990s, it became one of Rajasthan's leading heritage hotels, with 34 air conditioned rooms, each decorated in an individual style, many featuring period features as well as modern facilities such as air conditioning. There is a spacious garden and swimming pool to relax, with meals often served by the poolside. Several famous authors including Bruce Chatwin and William Dalrymple have spent extended stays here to enjoy the peaceful setting as they write.
Rohetgarh is famous for its traditional food, and you can learn about Rajasthani cooking by attending a cooking class here. It is also famous for its stables, and horse riding trips can be arranged for visitors. Rohet is a great location to base yourself to explore the surrounding local communities, and during a village visit you can learn about the Bishnoi villages and wildlife of this desert region.
